Since we do not have school screening programs for scoliosis in Canada, often family members, ballet teachers or gym teachers may notice uneven hips and shoulders.

 

If a family doctor finds any sign of scoliosis, he/she will order an X-ray and if Scoliosis is confirmed and progressing, a referral will be sent to the orthopedic doctors at CHEO (in Eastern Ontario).

 

If you do have an X-ray requisition from your family doctor, it would be best if you take your child to CHEO's X-ray department for EOS scanning as it is much less radiation than regular X-Ray. You can avoid multiple X-rays and unnecessary radiation.
